MacBook Neo is an entry-level Mac laptop with A18 Pro and specific memory and connection limits. This guide reviews the documented configuration; it does not assign a score based on firsthand testing.

Core specifications
Apple’s specifications list A18 Pro with a six-core CPU and five-core GPU, 8GB unified memory and 256GB or 512GB storage. The 13-inch display is rated at 500 nits. The higher configuration includes Touch ID.
It has USB 3 and USB 2 connections, one external display up to 4K at 60Hz, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6. It does not have Thunderbolt or MagSafe charging. The two USB-C connections are shown on the same side in Apple’s illustration.
Battery and everyday use
Apple’s up-to-16-hour battery statement is a manufacturer estimate under its conditions, not a promise that every course, workday or application runs that long. The earlier recommendation to leave the charger at home assumed more than that evidence supports.
Check the memory and software requirements for your own work. Eight gigabytes may be a meaningful limit for some workloads; a generic “student” or “light user” label does not settle application compatibility.
Apple Intelligence and privacy
Neo supports Apple Intelligence subject to the current software, language and region requirements. That does not make every AI feature local or available simultaneously. Optional ChatGPT integration is a separate data path; see the privacy guide.
Materials and launch history
Apple’s March announcement introduced the model. It is no longer an upcoming preorder. Apple describes 60% recycled content overall; that is not the same statement as “60% recycled aluminum,” which the previous article used incorrectly.
Neo versus Air
The M5 Air specifications list a higher starting memory tier and 512GB starting storage, not the old 256GB figure in our table. Air also offers Thunderbolt, MagSafe and different display options.
Compare the full local configuration price with your required software, external displays and storage. Neo can be considered where its limits fit the workload; Air or Pro can be considered when a specific capability is needed.
