Editorial policy
How the iPhone eXtra editorial team researches, writes and maintains articles. Every article's byline links to this page.
We research, we do not test
Our articles are research, not hands-on reviews. Unless an article says that we tested something, and says who tested it, how and when, we have not used the product it describes. We do not publish star ratings, scores or "tested" badges. When we cite someone else's tests or measurements, we name them and link their results.
Sources
- Apple: Apple Support articles, tech specs pages, Newsroom announcements and developer documentation.
- Manufacturers: official product pages, specification sheets and manuals for third-party accessories.
- Regulators and standards bodies, such as the FDA, the FCC and the USB Implementers Forum.
- Peer-reviewed research for health features, linked to the paper.
- Named independent publications, attributed and linked, for tests and measurements we cannot make ourselves.
We link the source next to the claim it supports, and articles list their main sources at the end. Reports and rumours are labelled as such, and beta features are kept apart from features that have shipped. If we cannot find a source for a claim, we leave it out.
Prices
Retailer prices change daily, so we do not quote them. Where Apple's price matters, we give Apple's US launch price and link Apple's announcement.
Updates and dates
Each article shows when it was published and, if it has changed since, when it was last updated. We change the updated date only when we change what the article says, not when we re-check it and find nothing to change.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note to the article that says what was wrong. To report an error, email [email protected] with the article address and, if you can, a source.
Since September 2026 we have reviewed every article against its sources and removed claims we could not support, including claims of hands-on testing. We merged articles that answered the same question, and retired the ones we could not bring up to this standard. Their old addresses now redirect to the closest article or return "410 Gone".
AI tools
We use AI tools to help research, draft and edit articles, and to make some illustrations. Everything we publish follows the rules on this page however it was drafted: each claim needs a source we can link. Illustrations are not photos of products we used.
Affiliate links
Some buying guides link to Amazon. If you buy through those links we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon is the only retailer we link to. Pages with Amazon links say so above the article, and the links are marked as sponsored. Commissions do not decide which products we include: we choose from specifications and sources, and we link to an Amazon search rather than a single listing when we have not checked that listing.
