The iPhone 17 Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch display, A19 Pro and three 48MP rear cameras. This guide uses documented specifications and does not report firsthand performance measurements.

Design and storage corrections
Apple’s U.S. specifications list an aluminum unibody, Ceramic Shield 2 front and Ceramic Shield back. The back is not described as Ceramic Shield 2. The reviewed weight is 233g; the 16 Pro Max specification lists 227g. The earlier claim of a 26g reduction was wrong.
17 Pro Max storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The 16 Pro Max already started at 256GB, not 128GB. Compare the actual regional model and configuration before buying.
Cameras: 4x lens and optical-quality 8x
The 48MP Telephoto has a 4x focal length and enables a 12MP optical-quality 8x option. Calling this a separate physical 8x optical lens was misleading. The 16 Pro Max already has a 48MP Ultra Wide; its Telephoto is 12MP at 5x.
The 17 Pro Max has an 18MP Center Stage front camera. Its 4K Dolby Vision 120fps capability is tied to the Fusion Main camera; it is not available across every mode. The specification sheet lists separate limits for Cinematic, Action, Dual Capture and ProRes recording.
Battery and charging
Apple lists up to 39 hours of video playback for the reviewed U.S. model under its conditions. That does not describe a measured day of mixed use. Regional model specifications can differ.
The documented wired fast-charge setup uses a compatible 40W or higher adapter and USB-C cable. The adapter is sold separately; the earlier claim that it was included was incorrect. Wireless charging also depends on the charger, adapter, software and temperature.

Is an upgrade useful?
Compare the camera functions, storage and screen size you actually need with the phone you own. A specification change alone does not establish a universal camera or battery winner. Check current prices and return terms instead of treating launch prices as permanent offers.
