Why There Is No Single List
Apple’s feature-availability page has separate entries for different Siri capabilities. Use the entry matching the task you want to perform.
That matters because the counts diverge wildly. Siri as a whole is listed for 37 regions. On-device speech processing covers 43 locales. Apple Intelligence Siri features cover 35. "Activate with Siri" covers five. Health data requests cover two. Same operating system, same assistant, five different answers.
So the honest question is never "does Siri support my language" but "does the specific Siri feature I want support my locale".

The Locale-Level List: 43 Entries
If you want something closer to a true language list, Apple's on-device speech processing list is the most granular one published. It shows language plus regional variant.
Be precise about what this is, though. It is the list for on-device speech processing and offline requests — the ability to handle some requests without a network connection. It is not a general statement of Siri language support, even though it is the closest thing Apple publishes.

Apple Intelligence Siri: A Different 35
The Apple Intelligence layer — the new design, product knowledge, richer language understanding and Type to Siri — carries its own locale list. Apple describes it in broad strokes as sixteen languages; at locale level it looks like this.

The gap that catches people out
Classic Siri supports several languages that Apple Intelligence does not, including Arabic, Hebrew, Cantonese, Malay, Russian, Thai and Finnish. If you speak one of those, Siri works — but the Apple Intelligence layer on top of it does not.
The reverse also happens. Apple Intelligence lists Spanish (Latin America) and Portuguese (Portugal), neither of which appears as its own entry in the 37-region Siri list.
This is the single most useful thing to understand about Siri languages in 2026: the base assistant and the AI layer are on different maps, and the AI layer is not simply a subset of the base.
The Anomaly Worth Knowing About
Portugal does not appear in Apple's 37-region Siri list, yet Portuguese (Portugal) appears in both the on-device locale list and the Apple Intelligence list on the same page. These entries have different scopes, so the general region list alone does not resolve the availability of every Portuguese-language feature.
We are not going to guess at the explanation. If you are in Portugal, check on your own device rather than trusting either list.
Feature-Specific Lists Are Much Shorter
These are the ones that surprise people, because they are dramatically narrower than the headline list.
- Activate with Siri — five only: English (Australia), English (Canada), English (United Kingdom), English (United States), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland).
- Siri: Health App Data Requests — two only: English (United States) and Mandarin Chinese (China mainland).
- Siri: Translations — 19 locales.
- Siri: Neural Text-to-Speech Voice — 25 regions.
Dictation, by contrast, covers far more locales than Siri does. If your language is not supported for Siri requests, dictation may still work fine — they are separate systems with separate lists.
Mixed-Language Siri Is Real, But Narrow
Apple does support mixing languages in a single request, in its English (India) configuration. It requires Siri's language to be set to English (India), and it pairs English with one of Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil or Telugu. Text you ask Siri to write in a message or note must be in English. Spoken responses can be configured for English only or English and Hindi, as Apple explains in its multilingual Siri guide for India.
Do not assume another locale supports the same combinations. Check Apple’s language-specific guidance and the Language option on your device.
How to Change Siri's Language
Go to Settings, then Apple Intelligence & Siri — shown simply as Siri on iPhones without Apple Intelligence — then tap Language and choose.
One caveat matters more than any other. Apple requires your device language and Siri language to match a supported language for Apple Intelligence to work. Set Siri to a language Apple Intelligence does not cover and you keep classic Siri but lose the Apple Intelligence layer entirely. That is the trade Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Thai, Finnish, Malay and Cantonese speakers are currently making.
Also note that voice options depend on language — Apple states plainly that choosing a different voice variety is "not available for all languages". Changing language may require a download before Siri responds normally.
How the Apple Intelligence List Grew — and What Comes Next
Context helps here, because the Apple Intelligence list has moved fast. It launched covering far fewer languages and roughly doubled over the following year, with a large expansion adding Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, Chinese (Traditional) and Vietnamese. Apple now describes the coverage as sixteen languages, which maps to the 35 locales listed above.
If you see an article citing nine Apple Intelligence languages, it is out of date. Check the date and the feature being counted before using an older total.
Looking forward, the rebuilt Siri that Apple announced for iOS 27 starts far narrower again. Apple's own wording is that it will be available as a beta for users with a supported device set to English, with more languages to follow. So the language picture is about to fragment further rather than converge: classic Siri at 37 regions, Apple Intelligence at 35 locales, and the new Siri at English only. Anyone outside English should expect to wait, and Apple has not published a timetable.
