Choose AirTag holders for first- or second-generation tags by fit, attachment and use, with practical limits on location and water resistance.
An AirTag holder attaches the tracker to a belonging. It does not make location updates continuous, prevent theft or guarantee recovery. Choose the attachment for the item and check the maker’s fit and installation instructions.

AirTag 2 and existing holders
Apple introduced the second-generation AirTag in January 2026 and states that it maintains the original form factor and accessory compatibility. The old FAQ saying no second generation existed was stale.

Keys and bags
The Belkin Secure Holder with Key Ring is a documented example of a twist-and-lock holder. Check the closure and attachment before use. Our earlier MFi and TSA-certification claims were not established by the reviewed product documentation.
For luggage, compare attachment security and access for battery replacement. A current Find My location may be helpful, but it is not a guarantee of a bag’s exact real-time position or successful airline recovery.
Wallets, adhesive holders and bike mounts
A wallet insert cannot make the AirTag itself credit-card thin. Check the combined thickness and your wallet’s dimensions. We removed an unverified named card-holder recommendation.
For adhesive mounts, check allowed surfaces, preparation and removal instructions. The earlier generic heat-gun removal advice could damage an attached item and has been removed. For bike mounts, confirm mounting dimensions and clearance; a hidden mount is not a theft-prevention system.
Pet holders require realistic expectations
Elevation Lab’s TagVault Pet uses screws, not the magnetic-key locking system previously described. Follow its collar dimensions and installation instructions.
Apple describes AirTag as a way to locate belongings through Find My. A collar holder does not turn it into a GPS collar or guarantee that a missing animal can be located. We removed claims that it keeps pets safe or provides reliable continuous tracking.
Water and tracking limitations
Apple’s AirTag specifications describe a conditional IP67 rating. That is not permanent waterproofing, and a holder’s rating must be checked separately. We have no measurements establishing that every enclosure preserves signal strength.
Apple’s unwanted-tracking guidance explains alerts and sounds. These protections also mean a concealed tracker should not be described as impossible to discover. Use AirTag with your own belongings and respect other people’s privacy.
