Quick answer: only two AirPods accessories actually change how the earbuds perform — the right ear tips and a slim cover for the charging case. Tips control the seal, and on AirPods Pro 3 the seal drives noise cancellation, bass, hearing-test accuracy and how steadily the heart-rate sensor reads. A $15 cover protects the half of the product Apple charges most to replace. Everything else below is convenience, and one popular category is a waste of money.

Which AirPods Do You Have?
Read this before you order anything. The single most common AirPods accessory mistake is buying a case cover for the wrong generation. The charging cases are physically different sizes, and a cover cut for one will not close on another.
- AirPods Pro 3 (2025, $249, Apple H2 chip): MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) with Find My speaker and lanyard loop. 62.2 x 47.2 x 21.8 mm, 44 g. Rated IP57 — buds and case.
- AirPods Pro 2: MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C), 60.6 x 45.2 x 21.7 mm, 50.8 g. Around 2 mm smaller in every dimension than the Pro 3 case, which is enough that a snug Pro 2 cover will not fit a Pro 3.
- AirPods 4 ($129) and AirPods 4 with ANC ($179): both use the same 50.1 x 46.2 x 21.2 mm shell, rated IP54. Far shorter and narrower than either Pro case.
- AirPods Max 2 ($549, H2 chip): no charging case at all, so none of the case advice here applies. Its accessory list is ear cushions, USB-C cables and the Smart Case.
Two more traps. The AirPods Pro 3 case charges over USB-C, MagSafe, any Qi-certified pad or even an Apple Watch charger, but wirelessly it tops out at 5 W Qi. It is not a Qi2 device, so a 15 W Qi2 pad will not fill it faster. And the standard AirPods 4 case is USB-C only — no wireless coil, no Find My speaker. Only the ANC version has them. Buy a MagSafe stand for a base AirPods 4 case and you have bought a paperweight.

The case is what gets dropped, scratched and pocket-linted, and a hinge ground open on concrete never feels right again. Spend $15 here first.

It is thin enough that MagSafe and Qi charging still work through it, and the cutouts leave the USB-C port and the Find My speaker grille clear. Around $15. If you want one pick and no further reading, take this one — just make sure the listing says AirPods Pro 3, not “AirPods Pro.”

elago cuts model-specific covers for both the Pro 3 and the AirPods 4 shell, in plain silicone skins and reinforced-corner hard-shell versions. Silicone grips better in a pocket and absorbs small knocks; the hard shells survive tile-floor drops noticeably better. Usually $10 to $20, and elago labels compatibility clearly, which is more than most sellers manage.

Ear Tips and Fit
This is the accessory that changes measurable performance. AirPods Pro 3 ship with five silicone sizes — XXS, XS, S, M and L — and Apple’s own footnote credits that range for the improved fit over Pro 2. If your ANC feels weak or your bass sounds thin, you almost certainly have the wrong size in at least one ear.
Apple AirPods Pro 3 Ear Tips, 5 pairs
$14.99 for one pair in each of the five sizes, straight from Apple. Apple also sells single-size 2-set packs if you already know what you need. This matters more than it sounds: plenty of people take a different size in each ear, and the retail box only gives you one spare pair per size. These are model-specific. AirPods Pro 1 and Pro 2 tips do not fit the Pro 3 nozzle, and AirPods 4 use an open design with no tips at all — there is nothing to replace. After any tip change, open Settings, tap your AirPods at the top of the list and run the Ear Tip Fit Test.

The older Comply tips sold for AirPods Pro 1 and 2 are explicitly not compatible with the Pro 3, and mis-ordering those is the most frequent complaint in this category. Foam expands into the ear canal and adds passive isolation on top of ANC, which mostly helps in the mid and high frequencies — cabin chatter, open-plan offices, someone else’s gym playlist.

The downsides are real and worth flagging. Foam compresses and rebounds, so insertion is slower and fiddlier than silicone. Wax and sweat break it down, so daily users replace tips a few times a year. Foam is also thicker than Apple’s silicone: check the lid closes flush and the buds actually charge before you throw the Apple tips away, because a bud sitting even slightly proud will not seat on the contacts.
One Pro 3-specific caution. The heart-rate sensor and the hearing features rely on the bud sitting consistently in the same place, so a tip that changes seating depth can change what you measure. They work: if you have genuinely had a bud shake loose on a run, hooks solve it.

Two honest caveats. Almost every hook has to come off before the buds go back in the charging case, so you will lose one unless the set includes a pouch and you use it. And AirPods Pro 3 with the correct tip size already hold for most running. Fix the tip size first; buy hooks only if that fails.
A lanyard for the Pro 3 case
Apple built a lanyard loop into the AirPods Pro 3 MagSafe case, which is a quiet admission that people drop these. A $6 wrist strap through that loop prevents the exact failure a cover only softens. Least glamorous item here, best odds of paying for itself.

Set expectations first: the case takes 5 W over Qi, and five minutes in it buys about an hour of listening. No charger changes that. What a good charger buys is one surface for phone, watch and buds.

The AirFly Pro line pairs two sets of headphones at once for shared viewing, runs 25-plus hours and recharges over USB-C. Apple sells the AirFly Pro 2 Deluxe in its own store, which is a reasonable signal of legitimacy in a category full of junk.

Check your aircraft first. A lot of airlines have already fitted Bluetooth audio to newer seatback systems, in which case this is dead weight. It is a fix for old hardware, not a universal travel upgrade.

Apple’s own documentation states plainly that noise control features including ANC, Adaptive Audio and Transparency can be degraded by debris and earwax buildup, and tells you to clean the buds regularly. If $20 for a kit feels silly, AirSquares-style earbud putty costs a few dollars and lifts wax out of the speaker mesh and the case wells without any liquid at all. What to Skip
- Third-party replacement charging cases. Marketplace listings for Pro 3 replacement cases exist, but cannot reproduce Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the Find My speaker or the IP57 rating, and pairing is frequently flaky. Apple service is the safer route.
- Qi2 chargers bought specifically for AirPods. The case is a 5 W Qi device. Buy Qi2 for your iPhone if you want; it does nothing extra for the buds.
- Tips advertised as “fits all AirPods Pro.” The Pro 3 nozzle changed. A universal claim on an ear tip listing is a red flag, not a feature.
- Thick armoured metal or wood covers. Anything that adds real bulk or metal between the case and the pad can stop wireless charging and defeat the case magnets. If a cover does not explicitly state MagSafe and Qi pass-through, assume it does not.
- Waterproof pouches for the buds. AirPods Pro 3 and their case are already IP57, and AirPods 4 cases are IP54. A dry bag is for boats, not commutes.

Buy the ear tips and the case cover. Apple’s $14.99 five-size tip multipack plus a $15 Spigen or elago cover cut for your exact generation covers 90 percent of the real-world value in this category for about $30. Add cleaning putty for a few dollars because Apple itself says a clogged mesh costs you noise cancellation.
Everything else is situational. Ear hooks if a bud has actually fallen out, a 3-in-1 charger if you are tired of three cables, an AirFly only if your airline still runs 3.5 mm jacks.
