Choose Mac accessories for your setup: compare dock charging, external display support, keyboards, storage and stands by model compatibility.
Start with a specific limitation in your Mac setup: a missing port, insufficient storage or an input device that does not suit your work. This guide uses product documentation. The previous firsthand assessment and ranking of 15 accessories were unsupported and have been removed.

Docks: check the Mac as well as the dock
The CalDigit TS4 documents 18 ports and up to 98W host charging. That is not Apple’s documented 140W fast-charge route for a 16-inch MacBook Pro. See Apple’s charging combinations.
Display support depends on the Mac’s chip and the dock’s supported connection paths. A Thunderbolt dock does not give every M1 or M2 Mac two native external displays. Newer Air models and Pro/Max chips have different limits; use the model-specific port guide.
The old article also described all M4 Pro models as Thunderbolt 4 and implied Apple silicon supports external GPUs. Those claims were incorrect. Apple’s eGPU guidance requires a compatible Intel Mac; do not buy one for an Apple silicon Mac based on the old text.
Keyboard, mouse and trackpad choices
The original Keychron Q6 is a wired model; wireless capabilities of other Q6 variants should not be assigned to it. Match the exact keyboard, layout and switch configuration.
A mouse or trackpad should suit your grip and required controls. Claims that one product prevents wrist strain or universally improves productivity require evidence we did not have. Check the manufacturer’s supported macOS version and whether custom controls require additional software.
Stands and lighting
The HiRise Pro for MacBook manual is the reference for its assembly and charger holder. Its phone-charging arrangement does not charge the MacBook wirelessly. MagSafe 3 laptop charging and an iPhone’s magnetic charging disc are different systems.
Compare a stand’s support area and adjustment range with your computer and desk. For monitor lights, check the exact display thickness and mounting requirements. We removed unsupported claims that a particular light prevents eye problems or safely fits every laptop screen.
External storage and backups
Match the drive’s exact model, host interface and cable. The old text mixed ordinary SanDisk Extreme and faster variants and treated advertised peak speeds as guaranteed Mac performance.
Apple’s Time Machine instructions explain drive setup. Do not assume a new drive never needs formatting; erasing or reformatting removes existing files. An external drive that holds the only copy of a file is not an additional backup.
A practical purchase order
List the devices you connect, your display modes and storage requirements. Buy only the accessory that solves a current problem, and confirm current price, warranty and return terms for the exact SKU. This guide does not supply live prices or numerical product ratings.
