See what Apple’s iOS 26.4 release notes actually introduced, which Apple Intelligence tools predated it, and how Siri AI availability differs.
iOS 26.4 did not introduce every feature commonly grouped under Apple Intelligence. Writing Tools and the early Siri improvements were already part of earlier releases. To understand this update, separate the point-release notes from the broader feature catalog.

What changed in iOS 26.4?
Apple’s iOS 26 update history lists Apple Music additions including Playlist Playground in beta, concert discovery, offline music identification and an Ambient Music widget. It also lists accessibility improvements, new emoji and other fixes. Availability differs by region: check the release notes and feature information for your own location.
Which AI features were already available?
Apple’s October 2024 release announcement already described Writing Tools, photo cleanup and initial Siri improvements. Calling those an iOS 26.4 debut misrepresents the history. Their presence on a supported phone does not establish that a newer, separately announced assistant has shipped.
What about Siri AI?
Apple’s 2026 announcement distinguishes developer testing of Siri AI from a wider beta later in the year. Check the current software and feature-specific availability instead of expecting every preview demonstration to work on an iOS 26 phone. Our Siri announcement timeline explains the distinction.
Check support before troubleshooting
Read Apple’s Apple Intelligence requirements for your hardware, software, language and region. A Settings menu label or a single successful request is not a reliable version test. Find the installed iOS version in Settings > General > About, then use the matching user guide.
